Davidson Obennebo Wins Elite Model Look International 2016.


For the first time in the 33 years since Elite Model Look first launched, a Nigerian model has taken top honours. Nigeria’s Davidson Obennebo was named as the male winner of this year’s Elite Model Look International Competition held in Lisbon, Portugal. Nasty Gal Files for Bankruptcy


Following a long period of legal trouble, it has been announced that online retailer Nasty Gal has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It has also been rumoured that Executive Chairman and author of ‘Girl Boss,’ Sophie Amoruso, may be resigning from her position. In a statement, the company’s CEO stated that the filing was to deal with immediate liquidity issues affecting the company. For more, click here.


Suno Closes Down


New York-based womenswear label Suno has ended its operations. The brand announced in a statement that its Cruise 2017 collection, which has been produced and shipped to retailers across the globe, will be its last collection. Suno was opened 8 years ago by Max Osterweis. For more, click here.


CR Fashion Book Signs Digital Partnership Deal with Hearst Publications


Founder and editor-in-chief of CR Fashion Book has just signed a digital partnership deal with Hearst Publications. Hearst will have authority to oversee the bi-annual print magazine’s digital distribution and advertising on the online publishing platform MediaOS. The deal will also allow Hearst to monetise CR Fashion Book’s digital and social media content and syndicate it across Hearst Magazines’ digital portfolio. Tommy Hilfiger Voices Support for Dressing Melania Trump


While the fashion industry struggles to come to terms with Donald Trump’s election victory, there has been a lot of talk from designers about not dressing First Lady Melania Trump. Tommy Hilfiger has however taken the unpopular stance and has come out in favour of dressing the First Lady. He told WomensWearDaily: “I think Melania is a very beautiful woman and I think any designer should be proud to dress her…You’re not gonna get much more beautiful than Ivanka or Melania.” For more, click here.


Vera Wang to Receive Legion of Honour


American fashion designer Vera Wang is set to be honoured in France as a Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honor. Gérard Araud, France’s ambassador to the United States and a longtime friend, will present the award at a luncheon, the place and time to be determined. The date of the award will coincide with her New York Fashion Week show and she would therefore skip the show and instead, present her new show online. For more, click here.


Topshop Staff to Strike on Cyber Monday Over Hourly Wage Dispute


Over half of the 200 workers at Topshop’s online distribution centre have announced that they will strike on Cyber Monday, one of the biggest shopping days in the year, due to a dispute over their hourly wages. They wanted to receive £8.45/hour, the amount set by the UK’s Living Wage Foundation, but are being paid the national minimum wage of £7.20/hour. The pay raise request was rejected by embattled Topshop CEO Phillip Greene. For more, click here.
