South Africa’s answer to London Collections: Men, South Africa Menswear Week, came to a close earlier this month with 37 designers from around the continent presenting collections. Donna Karan International Sold to the G-III Apparel Group.
French luxury conglomerate, LVMH, concluded plans this week to sell Donna Karan International to G-III Apparel Group for a reported $650m. This is only the second time in the history of the conglomerate that it has had to sell off a brand. According to the LVMH group managing director, Antonio Belloni, ,there were no plans to sell the brand until the apparel company contacted them. Peter Copping Exits Oscar de la Renta.
British-born fashion designer, Peter Copping, has stepped down from his role as Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta. Appointed shortly before the eponymous designer passed on two years ago, the designer cites a need to return to Europe as his reason for leaving the brand. He said, “After almost two years at Oscar de la Renta, personal circumstances require me to return to Europe. I have loved my time in New York where I hope to return at some point in the future.” For more, click here.
Antonio Banderas to Play Gianni Versace in Unauthorised Biopic.
19 years after the murder Gianni Versace, it has been announced that his biopic is in the works and that it will star Antonio Banderas. The film is set to begin shooting in Reggio Calabria (Versace’s birthplace) at the end of 2016. The Versace brand has stated that it has nothing to do with the production and advised the public to receive the movie as “a work of fiction.” For more, click here.
Marco Gobbetti Takes Over from Christopher Bailey as CEO of Burberry.
Chairman and CEO of Céline, Marco Gobbetti, has been named as the new CEO of Burberry. He takes the role over from Christopher Bailey who formerly played the roles of CEO and Chief Creative Officer. Bailey has been named as the brand’s President and will, along with Gobbetti, report to the Chairman of Burberry, John Peace. For more, click here.
Kering Ordered to Pay €13 million to Hedi Slimane in Non-Compete Case.
A French court has awarded Hedi Slimane €13 million in his case against French luxury holding company, Kering. Following Slimane’s exit from Saint Laurent, Kering lifted his contract’s non-compete clause, which ordinarily would be seen as a gesture of good faith so he would be free to work for a competing label. However, this lift meant that Slimane would be unable to receive the money attached to the clause. He successfully argued that he never asked for the clause to be lifted and was therefore entitled to receive the money. For more, click here.

German sportswear giant, Adidas, has confirmed its plans to extend its working relationship with Kanye West. The two parties have had a lot of success with the Yeezy line of shoes. Kenzo x H&M Teaser
