Amaka Osakwe of Maki Oh has never faltered in delivering timeless pieces via her brand. Since the talented Nigerian fashion designer picked up a sketchpad 6 years ago, she’s been in competitions for LVMH, gotten rave reviews from fashion’s biggest names, had her pieces featured in Beyoncé videos and stocked on the shelves of major retailers around the world. The Business of Fashion (BoF) has now taken notice of the brilliant designer and this year, have added her to their exclusive BoF 500 list.
The BoF500 is a reputable rolodex of global movers and shakers in the fashion industry who are shaping the style narrative. Year to year, a team of experts scour the globe looking for talents who have been nominated by former members of the revered list.
With a client range including Michelle Obama and Lupita Nyong’o and stockists including Oxosi and Farfetch (later this month), it’s no surprise that the talented designer has found a place on this year’s list. In her profile, they introduce her and her brand with this: “Since its launch in 2010, her ready-to-wear label has become one of Nigeria’s biggest fashion success stories.”
